Day 3: Ait Bouguemez Valley – Azib n’Ikkis
We begin our trek after meeting our mule team. We travel along trails to the Arous Valley and the village of the same name, where Berber shepherds peacefully herd their flocks while other farmers drain water to their verdant terraces at the bottom of the valley. Through a canyon so narrow that it barely lets in sunlight, we climb to the high-altitude sheepfolds, the Azib n’Ikkis. A superb view of the summit ridge of the MGoun massif (4,068 m) awaits us. We follow the path along the left bank of the Ikkis stream to the bivouac near the sheepfolds of the nomads of Ait Atta, with a remarkable view. 5 hours of walking / Ascent 550 m.
Day 4: Azib n’Ikkis – Tinghirmatine Plateau – the Mgoun Spring (Aflafal)
This is a short day full of surprises, in a magnificent, colorful landscape. Fairy chimneys rise along the Oullilymt stream. Thuriferous junipers grow on the valley sides as we head towards the resurgence of Aflafal, “the magic spring” (2,300 m). We will discover the postural world of the great nomadic tribes. On the mountainside and on the steep cliffs, Berbers, sheep, goat, and camel herders, have dug shelters for centuries for their families and herds when they arrive from the south (from early May to late September). We will surely enjoy tea with one of the families. Camp near the M’Goun spring and a surprise from our cook. Swimming is possible. 5-hour walk, elevation gain = 650 m / altitude gain = 400 m
Day 5: The M’Goun Spring (Aflafal) – Imi n’Irket.
We gradually leave the high mountain landscapes behind to descend the high and narrow M’Goun Valley (Ouzighimt). The fields are cultivated on narrow terraces, and isolated hamlets shelter at the foot of the ridges of Jebel Wagoulzat. The women, with their black hair in braids, rarely leave their villages. Camp in the village of Imi n’Irket (2000 m). 5-hour walk – elevation gain = 500 m / altitude gain = 200 m
Day 6: Mgoun Gorge – Tighranimine (1700 m).
We pass through other villages, clinging to the mountainside. The valley narrows considerably. The M’Goun Gorges are indescribable; they are a landscape as sumptuous as it is wild. After the suspended passage, known as Asderm N Sidi Hmad, we cross the most impressive section, known as Achaâbou (pipe), a large canyon with sculpted and eroded walls, approximately 500 meters high and dotted with groves of oleander. At times, the passage narrows to a depth of only a few meters… Quite an atmosphere! We emerge into the Tighranimine cirque. Camp in Tighranimine at an altitude of 1,700 meters. 5 hours of walking – D = 300 meters.
Day 7: Mgoun Gorges – Boutaghrar (1,500 meters).
Another superb stage: River, narrow gorges, impressive cliffs. Discovery of the mountain and Berber people settled between the austere mountains where no road can pass. Lunch in Boutaghrar, a beautiful village of ochre earth where Berber farmers cultivate and dry roses, sought after by perfumers from around the world. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 8: Boutaghrar – Marrakech.
Departure for Marrakech after breakfast via the Valley of Roses, the famous Kasbah Route, and a visit to the Aït Benhaddou Kasbah, then Tizi n’Tichka. And
We return to Marrakech at night.
