OVERVIEW

The 3-day Toubkal Mountain Trek is an exciting adventure for curious hikers and trekking enthusiasts. Mount Toubkal (Jebel Toubkal), with its volcanic origin, is made up of Jurassic and Cretaceous rock formations. Standing at 4,167 meters, it is the highest peak in North Africa, visible from surrounding mountains. This trek takes you through a variety of landscapes, from lunar-like terrains to quaint villages nestled in the hillside, surrounded by walnut trees, apple orchards, and terraced fields. The journey allows you to traverse from one village or valley to another, offering a truly unique experience.

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil (1740m) – Toubkal Refuge (3207m)

We start our journey by driving to the small village of Imlil. From here, we begin our trek, following the scenic Mizane Valley. Our first stop is the village of Aremd, followed by the Sidi Chamarouch Shrine. Continuing east, we cross the floodplain and ascend mule tracks through high rocky cliffs. After crossing a river, we reach the Sidi Chamarouch shrine, a popular spot for both tourists and pilgrims. The trail then steadily climbs, zigzagging toward the snowline, eventually leading us to the Toubkal Hut (3206m) where we will spend the night. The day’s walk takes approximately 5 to 6 hours.

Day 2: Toubkal Refuge (3207m) – Toubkal Summit (4167m) – Toubkal Refuge (3207m)

In the morning, we embark on the ascent to Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. The path leads us to the southern basin and across a stream just above the refuge. Though the walk is relatively straightforward, the gravel and altitude can make the trek challenging at times. However, the breathtaking views make it all worthwhile. At the summit, enjoy panoramic views stretching from the plains of Marrakech to the High Atlas Mountains to the north, the Anti-Atlas Mountains, and the Sahara Desert to the south. After taking in the stunning scenery, we descend back to the Toubkal (Argali) sanctuary and retrace our steps to the refuge for the night.

Day 3: Toubkal Refuge (3200m) – Sidi Chamharouch (2300m) – Imlil (1740m) – Marrakech

On the final day, we begin our descent from the Toubkal refuge after breakfast. We stop at the Sidi Chamharouch shrine for a relaxing tea break before continuing our journey back to Imlil. Along the way, we pass through the village of Armed, where we meet our driver and return to Marrakech, where you’ll check in at your hotel.
